Frequently asked questions

What difference between Prepaid and Postpaid service?

Prepaid mobile service is one that you pay for upfront when you purchase a SIM cards. You pay a certain amount of money before you start using the service, which is converted into mobile credit used for:Making calls, Sending text messages, Using mobile data. The amount of credit available for each usage type above will depend on your Prepaid plan, and the amount you recharge. The credit will expire after a set amount of time, for example 28 days - this is dependant on your plan and recharge. Postpaid is more like an agreement. You choose a plan and every month your telco will bill you and automatically refresh your plan inclusions on the first day of your billing cycle. Postpaid plans can be SIM-only which means you only pay for the phone service. Or they can come with a mobile phone included.

To activate a new prepaid mobile service, you will need to give the telco your:

  • name

The telco looks (visual check) at your documents or uses a government service such as the Document Verification Service to check your identity.

Selecting Telcos service

If you are choosing a new mobile service or switching telcos, you have a few things to consider. The law protects you, but make sure you understand the contract before you sign.

Telcos have to give you information that helps you compare products and services. The best source is the Critical Information Summary for each product. You’ll find these on telcos’ websites or you can contact them and ask for a copy.
